Why use a motorcycle helmet chin mount?
A chin mount holds your action camera right on the chin bar of the helmet, in line with your line of sight. Compared to side or top mounting, the centered viewpoint looks far more natural, tracks exactly where the rider is looking and eliminates the visible roll on lean angles. The low position also reduces wind noise in the microphone and keeps the camera profile compact at highway speeds.
Compatible with GoPro, DJI and Insta360
Mounts3D chin mounts use the standard GoPro-style two-prong interface, so they work with most current action cameras: GoPro HERO 9–13, DJI Osmo Action 3/4/5 (via magnetic adapter) and Insta360 ONE R, X3, X4, Ace Pro. You can choose horizontal or vertical orientation and pick the angle that fits your setup.
Helmet-specific fitment
Unlike generic curved mounts, each Mounts3D chin mount is shaped to match the exact geometry of one helmet model. That means maximum contact area on the chin bar with no air gaps that allow vibration or slippage. We make mounts for AGV, HJC, Shoei, Arai, Scorpion, KYT, MT and other brands — pick your brand from the list above and then the exact helmet model.
How to choose the right chin mount
- Identify your exact helmet model (inner label or owner manual).
- Pick the brand from the subcategory list (AGV, HJC, Shoei, etc.).
- Choose the matching model; if it is not listed, contact us and we will check compatibility.
- Decide camera orientation: horizontal (cinematic 16:9) or vertical (social media 9:16).
- Optionally add the accessory kit for a complete install.
Installation and adhesive mounting
The mount is bonded with industrial-grade 3M™ VHB tape — the same adhesive used in automotive exterior trim. Before applying, wipe the chin bar with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry for 2 minutes, then press firmly for 1–2 minutes. For peak adhesion, avoid riding for the first 24–72 hours. The adhesive is suitable for a wide temperature range and can usually be removed more cleanly with gentle heat.
Complete your setup with accessories
Adapters, extensions, dummy batteries and full kits for your GoPro, DJI or Insta360 setup.
Frequently asked questions
What is a motorcycle helmet chin mount?
A chin mount is an action camera mount that attaches to the chin bar of a motorcycle helmet. It places the camera in line with the rider's sight, giving a natural, stable POV (point of view) angle — much more cinematic than side or top mounting.
Is a chin mount better than a side mount or top mount?
For motorcycle POV footage, a chin mount is generally preferred. It places the camera on the chin bar in line with your line of sight, giving a centered, natural perspective. Side mounts film off-axis and show visible roll on lean angles; top mounts increase wind drag and look less natural. Chin mounting also keeps the helmet better balanced.
Will the chin mount fit my helmet?
Each Mounts3D chin mount is designed for a specific helmet model. Pick your brand (AGV, HJC, Shoei, Arai, etc.) from the subcategories, then choose the exact model. If your helmet is not listed, contact us and we will check whether we can design a dedicated mount.
Is it compatible with GoPro, DJI Osmo Action and Insta360?
Yes. All chin mounts use the standard GoPro-style two-prong interface, compatible with GoPro HERO 9–13, DJI Osmo Action 3/4/5 (via magnetic adapter) and Insta360 ONE R, X3, X4 and Ace Pro.
How is the chin mount attached to the helmet?
With industrial 3M™ VHB adhesive tape, applied to the chin bar after cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. Installation takes under 5 minutes. Let the helmet rest for 24–72 hours before the first ride for full adhesive strength.
Does the chin mount affect helmet safety or homologation?
The mount does not require screws, holes or structural modification to the helmet shell. However, any accessory added to a helmet may be assessed differently by the helmet manufacturer, insurer or local regulations, so check your helmet manual if you need official confirmation.
Will the adhesive damage my helmet or its paint?
No. The 3M™ VHB tape is engineered for painted surfaces — the same adhesive is used in the automotive industry for trim, badges and spoilers. With moderate heat from a hair dryer (never a heat gun) the mount lifts off cleanly, and any tape residue wipes away with isopropyl alcohol without affecting the helmet's paint, finish or structure.
Can the chin mount be removed without damaging the helmet?
Yes. With moderate heat from a hair dryer (never a heat gun), the adhesive softens and the mount lifts off cleanly. Any tape residue can usually be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol; test first on a discreet area if the finish is delicate.
